The function of shock absorber air suspension air bag
1. Alleviate the volume change of the hydraulic chamber caused when
the inner rod moves!
Point ①:
Although the inner rod is relatively thin, the liquid cannot be
compressed. After the inner rod is pressed in, the small amount of
the inner cavity volume is enough to generate high pressure, which
is a leak of shock absorber oil! Generally, the shock absorption of
civilian vehicles is by not filling the hydraulic chamber, and
retaining a part of the gas to adapt to this volume change.
However, when the shock absorber moves violently, the gas may cause
bubbles in the hydraulic oil. When the bubbles pass through the
piston, vibration and instability will occur. Stablize! Using an
air bag can not only alleviate this volume change through
contraction, but also separate the oil and gas to prevent the
shock-absorbing oil from producing bubbles that affect the
shock-absorbing effect!
2. The anti-air travel effect enables hydraulic damping to work
better!
Point ②:
If there is no air bag, when the shock absorber compresses quickly,
a vacuum is likely to be generated in the space under the piston.
When the shock absorber rebounds, there will be no damping in the
section of the stroke where the vacuum is generated, which affects
the shock absorbing effect. , this area is called "empty travel".
This situation does not matter much in civilian cars, but it is a
big problem when used in racing cars where the shock absorbers
require high-speed and violent movements! The air bag shock
absorber is filled with high-pressure gas, which greatly increases
the air pressure in the hydraulic chamber. It can effectively avoid
the "empty stroke" of vacuum generated at the lower end of the
piston during shock absorber compression, thus improving the shock
absorbing effect!
If explained using hydraulic principles: liquid is incompressible
(ideal state), but gas can be compressed. This provides a longer
compression stroke. Moreover, the pressure of gas is easy to
adjust. The reason for using nitrogen is of course because the
pressure changes less with temperature. There should also be a
piston between the oil and gas, or the gas may be contained in an
elastic air bag, which can be large or small like a balloon. I
haven’t taken it apart and looked at it, experts shouldn’t laugh at
it.
In fact, when changing the oil of an ordinary front shock absorber,
the oil is not filled up, and there is still some space left. This
part of the air is in a closed environment and also participates in
the work. It's just that it's not relatively isolated from the oil,
so the effect may be worse, and it doesn't have the adjustment
function. Just make a simple modification and add a valve core. I
guess it should be fine to pump air inside.
